Rhythm Masters Improvisation

Rhythm Masters / Improvisation

Assignment #18

Project Title: “Peter Gunn” in G minor blues

Instructions:  This is another “play along with” chart, which I originally arranged as a keyboard ensemble, and then a “combo” trio.  It has a fairly long introduction, and after the “set up”, play along on your part.  The solo improvisation section is indicated (once again) with “slash” notation.  This chart will be improvised with using the Bb Major / G minor “Blues Clock” (or other improvisation tool).  You can record your improvisation solo, or just play along for the “fun” of it.

This version of “Peter Gunn” can be played by one, two, or three players, and also as a Jazz trio, or even an ensemble.  There are some “split” parts at end due to the ending “whole tone” chords, that can use more than three notes if you have the additional players.  There is also a tuba part that doubles the electric bass, along with an easier second tuba part, which supports the “ostinatos” in the left hand of the piano part.  I never wrote a drum set part for this, so just have your set player (if you have one) play time using a very basic “rock style.
