Project Title: “Sunshine of Your Love” / Bb minor blues scale
Instructions: Students should once again set up “Red Cool Media Audio Editor” to record their second playing improvisation assignment. Refer to the last video in how to set up and steps to record your assignment, and choose between the same two student aide sheets (the “3 Ring Color Coded Blues Clock” or the “Bb minor blues Chord Progression Staff Notation” sheet), for your “notes to play” reference as you improvise. If you are using the “3 ring clock”, note that the solo section on all of the “Sunshine of Your Love” parts are also color coded, to help easily identify where the chord changes take place. Students should play along with the “Sunshine of Your Love” playback MP3 from the beginning up to bar # 12. From bar #’s 13 through 40 soloists should improvise using the appropriate 12 bar blues scale (watch the “Sunshine of Your Love” video for procedure confirmation). Students should end their recording at bar 40, or after they finish playing the “shout chorus” (the next 4 bars prior to the repeat).
In the “Sunshine” video, I also reviewed what steps to do after the recording is made and how to convert your MP3 to a URL document that can be sent to your teacher, or e-mailed to Mr. Moon. When recording this improvisation solo, really focus on NOT RUSHING the tempo. Playing at a slower tempo can be very difficult, listen carefully to the resource recording as you play.
