"A Medieval Sketch" Flute or Clarinet Quartet

“A Medieval Sketch”  Clarinet and Flute Quartet:

Along time ago, I composed “A Medieval Sketch” for a middle school clarinet quartet at my school to take to Solo and Ensemble Festival.  I later scored the clarinet arrangement for full concert band, and after that, adapted it into a flute quartet (also for Solo and Ensemble Festival).  Many years later, a member of that flute quartet became a producer for documentary films and approached me about using it for background music in one of his projects.  Rob Lewis (that was his name) said it was one of the favorite songs he ever played, and after twenty years, he still had the “tune” in his head.  I was very honored that he remembered the quartet and searched me out to ask me, and of course I said sure.  Rob had a group of clarinet players he knew he could assemble, and requested the original “clarinet version”.

Rob later contacted me to let me know that the clarinet quartet that he produced was nominated for a local Emmy.  Well that was WAY COOL!  I checked the specific documentary from the “Night Skies over Beaufort” series, and (unless you are an astronomy “nerd”) it is really quite boring.  Of course I didn’t win, but Rob sent me a “you tube” video of the recording that was done by the clarinet quartet he was able to assemble at a local college.  I am also attaching both the clarinet and flute scores, Finale “playback” recordings of the flute ensemble, and a link to the clarinet “you tube” video.  If anyone is interested, parts are available upon request.
