The “paper i-Pad” is an idea I came up with out of necessity.  With every student in the school, you were always dealing with “technical” issues and i-Pads being repaired.  Students without i-Pads any given class, would use the paper keyboards.  In this way they could still keep up, and I could observe and see if they understood the lesson.  They would put the paper keyboard on top of a book, or some kind of board, and play on it like a regular i-Pad.  There were also times students were more active playing on their i-pads than they were supposed to be.  Putting their i-Pad in “time-out” and giving them a paper i-Pad to use (for about 5 to 10 minutes) seemed modify their behavior (for the most part) and minimal impact on the continuity of instruction.
